A Loop Of Jade

Love Story

“The twin lids of the black lacquer box open away,

a moonlit lake ghostly lotus leaves unfurl in tiers,

silver chains careful o’s and a’s in copperplate,

twisted strings of flattened beads lupin seeds,

carnelians their tarnished settings horseflies’ eyes,

her amber ring, my fingers gauge its weight,

teaspoon of honey whisky poured by morning light.”
