Planet 51

Animated Family Feature

In 2009 James composed a large-scale, colourful orchestral score to accompany Sony Pictures’ hit movie ‘Planet 51′ – a galactic-sized animated alien adventure, featuring a host of renowned voices including Jessica Biel, Gary Oldman and John Cleese. The music was recorded with long-term collaborators, the London Metropolitan Orchestra, at London’s Abbey Road studios with 15 further sessions convened on pop songs from the 1950s which feature in the movie.

The film tells the story of American astronaut Captain Charles ‘Chuck’ Baker who lands on Planet 51 thinking he’s the first person to step foot on it. To his surprise, he finds that this planet is inhabited by little green people who are happily living in a white picket fence world, and whose only fear is that it will be overrun by alien invaders … like Chuck!
