A Fragile Planet is a sweeping orchestral suite that spans the breadths and depths of the natural world, whilst bringing us closer to the living things that struggle to survive there. Beginning with bare and open evocations of the fragile beginnings of life on earth, before blooming to lush orchestral depictions of spring in paradise, the album was recorded at Abbey Road with a full symphony orchestra.
01 A Fragile Planet:
A primal and prehistoric orchestral prelude to the birth of life on earth. The harsh, cold face of planet earth, sweeping and brooding with bare, open sounds that speak to wide open plains not yet teeming with life.
02 Creation Miracle:
A glorious burst of orchestral colour, life blooms on earth and nature begins to flourish where the land was once barren. Epic, sweeping strings and horn countermelodies ebb and flow across harp and celesta arpeggios and transcendent choir swells – the circle of life begins.
03 Thawing Ice, Rising Tides:
A shivering, icy orchestral movement that evokes harsh winds and biting cold as a foreboding danger stirs beneath the ice.
04 A Spring Renewal:
A florid and resplendent orchestral piece that calls to mind the first blooms of spring erupting in an idyllic landscape.
05 Trials to Survive:
A threatening, unpredictable orchestral ride across desert planes and through dense jungle, predator hunting prey.
06 The Edge of Paradise:
A beautiful, sweeping orchestral movement that brings the audience to paradise, at rest in peaceful bliss.
